HANOI, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- A pine forest fire in central Vietnam's Nghe An province was fully extinguished early Monday following overnight efforts, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The blaze broke out on Sunday afternoon, destroying several hectares of decades-old pine forest, with significant ecological damage unlikely to recover naturally, according to the state-owned media.
More than 400 firefighters, police officers, soldiers, and local residents battled the fire through the night amid difficult terrain and strong, dry winds, the report said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
