Vietnam vows to continue trade talks with U.S. after tariffs cut to 20 pct

HANOI, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam will continue trade negotiations with the United States to finalize a reciprocal trade agreement based on openness, equality, mutual respect, and consideration of each country's development level, the Ministry of Industry and Trade said Friday.

In a statement posted on its website, the ministry said the United States has lowered tariffs on Vietnamese goods from 46 percent to 20 percent under a new executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump modifying tariff rates for 69 trading partners.

Since April 2025, Vietnam and the United States have engaged in high-level trade talks, making progress on tariffs, customs, digital trade, and other areas through direct and online meetings, the statement added.
