Vietnam to build first nuclear power plant with Russia's help

MOSCOW, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Russia and Vietnam have signed an agreement to construct Vietnam's first nuclear power plant, the Russian government said in a statement on Monday.

According to the statement, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh attended the signing ceremony, along with Alexey Likhachev, director general of Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom.

Mishustin said earlier that the project would bolster cooperation in high technology and both basic and applied scientific research.

According to the Vietnam News Agency, Pham Minh Chinh is paying an official visit to Russia from March 22 to 25 at the invitation of Mishustin.
