KAMPALA, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's team of six will compete in the 22nd World Aquatics Championship slated for July 15-20 in Singapore.
The team was officially flagged off by the National Council of Sports (NCS) Chairman Ambrose Tashobya during a ceremony held at the headquarters in Kampala on Saturday.
"We are confident that the team will perform well because they have prepared well," Tashobya told Xinhua.
Debutant Benjamin Lutaaya and Swagiah Mubiru will compete in the 5km open water race, while the experienced Kirabo Namutebi, Gloria Muzito, Tendo Muklazi, Jesse Ssengonzi will participate in the pool events.
Head coach Abel Ddamulira told Xinhua that the swimmers are very confident of winning some medals. "We know it will be a very tough competition because this is a world event. But our swimmers are well prepared and know what to expect," Ddamulira added.
Over 2,000 athletes from around 190 countries and regions are expected to compete in the championships that is being held in Southeast Asia for the first time.
