Vietnamese PM orders reviewing bank accounts, SIM cards to combat online fraud

HANOI, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Saturday called for the launch of a nationwide campaign to thoroughly review all bank accounts and mobile SIM cards in an effort to prevent online fraud and scams, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

He was speaking while chairing a meeting of the government steering committee on science, technology, innovation and digital transformation.

The prime minister urged the allocation of sufficient funds to meet the target of dedicating 3 percent of the annual state budget expenditure to science, technology, innovation, digital transformation and administrative reform.

He emphasized the urgent need to develop a modern and comprehensive digital infrastructure, with key priorities including the deployment of telecommunications satellites and broader 5G coverage.
