Vietnam to start construction of north-south high-speed railway line by 2026

HANOI, April 24 (Xinhua) -- The Vietnamese government has set a deadline for the north-south high-speed railway line's groundbreaking by Dec. 31, 2026, Vietnam News Agency reported Thursday, citing a resolution issued on Wednesday.

The government has required the project's construction, procurement and equipment installation to be completed by 2035 for its official operation.

The Vietnamese National Assembly approved the investment policy for the north-south high-speed railway project last November, with a total investment of 1.7 quadrillion Vietnamese dong (about 65.2 billion U.S. dollars).

The railway line is scheduled to stretch roughly 1,541 km, pass through 23 passenger stations and five freight stations, and have a design speed of 350 km per hour.
