Cambodia respects, values religious diversity: PM

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said on Thursday that the Southeast Asian country respected and valued religious diversity, saying that all religions educated people to be good citizens.

He made the remarks during a meeting in Phnom Penh with Mohammad Saeed Al-Majdouai, deputy secretary-general of the Muslim World League in Mecca, said a news release from the prime minister's spokesperson unit.

Hun Manet said the Cambodian government had prioritized ensuring harmonious coexistence among religions in the kingdom and that religions played a crucial role in educating citizens and promoting a peaceful, stable, and progressive society.

For his part, Al-Majdouai expressed his delight at revisiting Cambodia and highly valued the country's rapid development across all sectors, particularly in the fields of economy and education.

He said Cambodia had become a model country on the global stage for ensuring national and religious harmony, according to the news release.

Al-Majdouai was in Phnom Penh for an Islamic Summit under the theme "Islam and Buddhism", with approximately 180 participants from 31 countries and regions.
