Vietnam issues over 43,900 electronic ID accounts to foreigners

HANOI, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam issued 43,926 level-2 electronic identification accounts to foreign nationals during a 50-day campaign, Vietnam News Agency reported Monday.

Between July 1 and Aug. 19, immigration offices nationwide processed 50,809 applications, and forwarded them to the Administrative Management Police Department.

The initiative is part of Vietnam's digital transformation and governance modernization agenda, the state-owned media reported.

A level-2 electronic ID account allows holders to access a range of digital services in Vietnam, including banking authentication, rental registration, access to public services, and storage of electronic residence cards and other valid documents via the national digital identity app.
