Vietnam's domestic tourists up 19 pct during Lunar New Year holiday

HANOI, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam welcomed about 12.5 million domestic tourists during the nine-day Lunar New Year holiday, a surge of 19 percent compared to the same period last year, the country's National Authority of Tourism has reported.

Eight localities reported tourism revenues exceeding 1 trillion Vietnamese dong (39.4 million U.S. dollars), namely Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa, Kien Giang, Quang Ninh, Lao Cai and Ninh Binh.

During the same holiday in 2024, only two localities achieved that milestone, local media reported.

Several localities experienced a surge in tourist numbers. Leading the list was Ho Chi Minh City, welcoming an estimated 2.1 million visitors, with total tourism revenue reaching approximately 7.69 trillion dong (304 million dollars), a 17.4 percent year-on-year increase.

Vietnam's international arrivals during the cited period also witnessed strong growth, with about 142,000 visitors, representing a 15.8 percent rise as compared to 2024, said the authority.
