TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Iran U-23 football team defeated Thailand 2-0 in Round of 16 of the 2022 Asian Games on Wednesday.

Arsalan Motahari was on target in the 13th minute and Yasin Salmani made it 2-0 with 10 minutes remaining.

Iran was held to a goalless draw against Saudi Arabia in Group B and defeated Vietnam 4-0 and Mongolia 3-0 in its following matches.

A record high of nearly 12,500 athletes from 45 countries and territories compete across 40 sports in the 2022 Asian Games.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to Hangzhou in 34 sports events.
