Vietnam reports 3,177 new COVID-19 cases

HANOI, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam recorded 3,177 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, up by 1,399 from Monday, according to its ministry of health.

All the new cases were locally transmitted, said the health ministry.

The newly reported infections brought the total tally to 11,463,404. The country reported a new death from the pandemic in the southern city of Can Tho on Tuesday, bringing the total fatalities to 43,142.

As of Tuesday, there were 144 severe cases in need of assisted breathing in the Southeast Asian country, according to the ministry. Nationwide, 10,581,022 COVID-19 patients, or over 92 percent of the total infections, have recovered.
