PHNOM PENH, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's anti-drug police have arrested a man for allegedly possessing more than 25 kg of illicit drugs, the Anti-Drug Department said in a news release on Saturday.

The 37-year-old jobless man was caught Tuesday night during a raid on his rental room in Phnom Penh's Meanchey district.

"Some 21 kg of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), 2.8 kg of ecstasy and 1.4 kg of ketamine, as well as two rifles with 96 bullets were confiscated from the suspect," the anti-drug agency said.

Cambodia has no death sentence for drug traffickers. Under its law, anyone found guilty of trafficking over 80 grams of illicit drugs could be jailed for life.

According to the Anti-Drug Department, in 2021, the authorities nabbed 13,765 drug suspects in 6,242 cases throughout the country, confiscating 4.43 tons of illicit drugs.

The drugs seized last year included heroin, ecstasy, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, methamphetamine pills, cathinone and ketamine, among others.
