HANOI, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 14,818 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, including 14,783 locally transmitted and 35 imported, according to its Ministry of Health.

The Vietnamese capital Hanoi had the highest number of infections on Monday with 2,830 cases, followed by central Khanh Hoa province with 795 cases and southern Binh Phuoc province with 640 cases.

The infections brought the country's total tally to 1,914,393 with 34,531 deaths. Nationwide, as many as 1,590,090 patients have so far recovered, up 89,842 from Sunday.

Some 161.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 71.2 million second shots and 11.8 million third shots have been administered, according to the ministry.

Vietnam has by far gone through four coronavirus waves of increasing scale, complication, and infectivity. As of Monday, the country has registered over 1.9 million locally transmitted COVID-19 cases since the start of the current wave in late April last year, the ministry said.
