Vietnam's daily COVID-19 infections hit new record

HANOI, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported another record high of 6,194 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday, surpassing the previous record of 5,926 cases registered on July 18, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The new infections included 6,164 locally transmitted and 30 imported, bringing the total tally to 74,371 with 370 deaths, the ministry said.

Among the community cases, 4,218 were reported in the southern epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 679 in the nearby southern Binh Duong province, and 432 in the southern Long An province.

Nationwide, as many as 13,421 patients have recovered, up 1,450 from Wednesday.

As of Thursday, Vietnam has registered a total of 72,242 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 70,672 detected since the start of the latest outbreak in late April, the ministry said.
