HANOI, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 5,357 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, including 5,343 locally transmitted and 14 imported, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The new infections brought the total tally in the country to 68,177 with 370 deaths, the ministry said.

Among the community cases, 3,556 were reported in the southern epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 964 in the nearby southern Binh Duong province, and 170 in the southern Dong Nai province.

Nationwide, as many as 11,971 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered, up 528 from Tuesday.

As of Wednesday, Vietnam has registered a total of 66,078 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 64,508 detected since the start of the latest outbreak in late April, the ministry said.
