BEIJING, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 540 new COVID-19 cases and 10 new deaths on Saturday, making the tally at 549,724 and death toll at 8,451, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 13,082 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

HANOI -- Vietnam recorded 13 new cases of COVID-19 infection on Saturday, including one imported and 12 locally transmitted, according to its Ministry of Health.

The new infections brought the total confirmed cases in the country to 2,507 as of 6 p.m. local time Saturday, said the ministry.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- Brunei reported one new imported case of COVID-19 on Saturday, bringing the national tally to 189.

According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, Case 189 is a 43-year-old man who arrived in the country from Jakarta, Indonesia on Feb. 21. The contact tracing for this case is still being conducted.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 11,022 more COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, roughly the same as a day earlier, the country's COVID-19 response center said Saturday.

The national tally has thus increased to 4,312,181 with 88,726 deaths and 3,900,348 recoveries, the center said.

SUVA -- The South Pacific island nation of Vanuatu reported on Saturday two new COVID-19 cases.

According to Radio New Zealand (RNZ), Vanuatu's Prime Minister Bob Loughman said late Saturday that the two new cases were expatriates, a man and a woman and they came to Vanuatu on a chartered flight last month.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 1,680 new COVID-19 infections, the health ministry said on Saturday, bringing the national total to 311,777.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that three of the new cases are imported and 1,677 are local transmissions.

Another seven deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 1,166.

HONG KONG -- China's Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported Saturday eight new cases of COVID-19, taking the tally to 11,074.

The new cases included four local infections, of which two were untraceable, according to a CHP press conference.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 1,329 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking its total to 294,432, according to the country's health ministry.

There have been 1,531 new recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 285,036, the ministry added.

TBILISI -- Georgia on Saturday reported 355 new COVID-19 cases, taking its total tally to 272,617, according to the country's National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC).

Data from the NCDC showed that 91 more patients have recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 266,344.
