Lower senior age from 60 to 56' Know pending bills for the elderly

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Dec 6 (PIA) - Lawmakers in both the House of Representatives and in the Senate are pushing for a more senior citizen-friendly Philippines by drafting more responsive bills in the 18th Congress.

One bill aims to protect senior citizens from violence and abuse. Another bill seeks to increase the 20 percent discount for airline and sea fares to 50 percent, while another seeks to lower the senior citizen age from 60 to 56.

Lenbard Retada, focal person for senior citizen at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office 9 shared the following bills are still pending, and whether they pass the scrutiny of the representatives still remain to be seen.

House Bill 00065

An act protecting senior citizen from violence, defining elder abuse, and prescribing penalties therefore.

An act increasing the monthly social pension of senior citizens expanding the coverage thereof.

An act increasing the monthly social pension of senior citizens and expanding the coverage thereof.
